Guest Instructor Program

Introducing Team Shark BJJ’s Guest Instructor Program!  Periodically Daniel will arrange for guest instructors to come teach for a week or more at Team Shark BJJ and give a seminar at the end of their visit.  It is our hope that this will enhance our already strong curriculum and give students a chance to learn from many different teachers.

First to visit will be Alexandre “Capitao” Almeida of WSOF.  Capitao, a first degree BJJ black belt, is 18-7 in professional MMA and currently fights with the World Series of Fighting MMA promotion.  Capitao will be visiting from May 2 – May 5 and will be holding a seminar on Friday, May 5 from 6:30-9.  The seminar is $60.  Spaces are filling up fast, reserve yours at the desk today!

Next will be Marcelo Andrade.  He will be here for 6 weeks, starting May 1st.  Marcelo will be teaching Muay Thai classes Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30-12:30 PM and 8-9 PM.  These classes will be available to students with the unlimited package.  If you want to add this class to your package, ask how at the desk.  Marcelo has been training Muay Thai since 1996.  See more of his bio below:

  • Former Chute Boxe member
  • Instructor degree under Luiz Charneski
  • Muay Thai and Boxing head coach at Hype Gym (Curitiba/Brazil) 2010-2015.
  • Muay Thai instructor at Charneski Fight Team (Curitiba/Brazil and ATX) 2015-2016

We are very excited to have both of these instructors as our guests!  Please make them feel welcome and take advantage of the great opportunity to learn from them!

11 ways to tell you’re addicted to BJJ

  1. When you pass by the medical tape in the pharmacy aisle you always grab a roll.
  2. You carry a large refillable jug of water with you and measure your water intake.
  3. When getting comfortable in bed, you shrimp and bridge instead of tossing and turning.
  4. When giving or receiving hugs, you always go for double under hooks.
  5. When in public you look for the biggest guy in the room and think, “I could take him.”
  6. If you haven’t grappled in more than a day, you start wondering how socially appropriate it would be to ask random strangers to roll.
  7. If you have BJJ class flashbacks when watching fights on TV or when hearing others talk about self-defense.
  8. If your partner has ever complained about the frequency of your BJJ classes.
  9. If you have BJJ friends that don’t mix with your other friends.
  10. If you have blown off social events because you needed to go to BJJ.
  11. When you had a bad day, you go home and tell your partner you need a roll instead of a drink.
